In 2014, Sony had a supply shortage for the PlayStation Camera, as the demand far exceeded the supply. Released in 2016, a new model of the camera, featuring a new cylindrical design with the same features. It has two cameras for depth perception and motion sensing, as well as a 4-channel microphone array. The PlayStation Camera is now an essential part of VR gaming on PlayStation consoles. First released in 2013 with the PlayStation 4, it followed the PlayStation Eye for the PS3. The PlayStation Camera is a peripheral accessory for the PlayStation 4.
